How to Root LG G5 on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow Official Firmware

LG G5 users have some good news that they can now root their LG G5 devices running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow official firmware. In this guide we’ll use the latest version of SuperSU v2.71 to gain root and custom TWRP 3.0.2 recovery to flash it. After getting root access over your LG G5, you’ll be able to install custom recoveries, custom ROMs, themes and third-party apps that needs administrator rights. All you need to have bootloader unlocked and TWRP 3.0.2 custom recovery already installed on LG G5.

If you have LG G5 device running on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow official software version then go ahead and follow the given instructions to easily root LG G5 on all latest firmwares. Remember to take proper backup of your important data and settings.

Note:

This guide is working with LG G5 device model number H850 (EU Variant) having Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Do not try to install this firmware on any other device or incorrect variant.

Pre-Requirements:

  • Make a full Nandroid backup of all your data and setting before proceeding to the installation guide.
  • The bootloader of your LG G5 should be unlocked.
  • The latest version of TWRP Recovery should already be installed on your phone.
  • Enable USB Debugging option on your LG G5.
  • Make sure that the battery level of your LG G5 is about 70% to avoid unexpected shutdowns.

Required Files:

Download SuperSU v2.71

Steps To Root LG G5 on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow:

Step No 1:– First, download SuperSU v2.71 (BETA-SuperSU-v2.71-20160331103524.zip) from the above given link on the desktop of your PC.

Step No 2:– Now, plug your LG G5 with the PC using its USB data cable and mount its USB memory.

Step No 3:– Transfer the UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46.zip file to the root folder of your SD card on the phone.

Step No 4:– Type and enter the following command to enter into TWRP Custom recovery:

adb reboot recovery

Step No 5:– While the device is in TWRP recovery, choose “flash zip from SD card”, select it and press the Power button to select “choose zip from sdcard”.

Step No 6:– Locate BETA-SuperSU-v2.71-20160331103524.zip athat you have already copied to the SD Card of your phone. Select it using the Power button and confirm the installation on the next screen to begin.

Step No 7:– Once the installation is completed, go to “+++++Go Back” and reboot the phone by selecting “reboot system now” from the Recovery menu.

Your LG G5 will take about 4 to 5 minutes to boot for the first time after installation.

Done! You have successfully rooted LG G5 and you can find the SuperSU app in your apps list.

To verify that either your device is properly rooted or not, install Root Checker App from the Google Play Store.
