By following the given easy and detailed guide, you’ll be able to install 8.1 LineageOS 15.1 Oreo on HTC One M8. All you need to have a rooted HTC One M8 and the latest version of a custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP must be installed on it to flash this custom ROM and Google apps package. As the ROM given in this guide is a custom ROM which is developed by the third-party developers, not officially released by HTC. So, without a custom recovery and unlocked bootloader, it will not be possible to flash this ROM on your device.

BEFORE GETTING STARTED:
- Make sure that the battery level of your HTC One (M8) is at least about 80% before proceeding to the installation guide.
- Download and install proper USB Drivers for the HTC One (M8) on PC.
- It is highly recommended to take a good backup of your important data and settings on the phone using a custom recovery such as CWM or TWRP. In case anything goes wrong then you’ll be able to restore your data.
- Enable USB Debugging Mode on One (M8) from Settings > Developer Options.

Step 1 – First, download 8.1 LineageOS 15.1 ROM and Google Apps package from the above links on the desktop of your PC for One M8.
Step 2 – Once the firmware file is downloaded, extract boot.img from the zip file separately.
Step 3 – Connect the HTC One M8 to the PC using its USB data cable and mount USB memory.
Step 4 – Transfer the downloaded 8.1 ROM zip and Google Apps zip files to the root folder of your phone memory / SD card.
Step 5 – Place the boot.img file to android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory on your PC.
Step 6 – Power OFF your device in order to boot into Bootloader/Fastboot Mode. Also, disconnect from the USB cable.
Step 7 – Power ON the HTC One M8 while pressing and holding the Volume Down + Power buttons at the same time.
Step 8 – While your device is in the Fastboot Mode, navigate to android-sdk-windows\platform-tools directory on your PC. Open Command Prompt (Shift + Right-click > Open Command Prompt).
Step 9 – Type the following command and hit Enter.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Step 10 – After that, type the following command and press Enter.
fastboot reboot
Step 11 – Follow the navigation instructions on the screen. Select BOOTLOADER and then go to RECOVERY.
Step 12 – Your device is now in TWRP Recovery, tap on the ‘Wipe’ button to perform a full data wipe. Then swipe on the “Swipe to Factory Reset” option.
Step 13 – Navigate to the main menu of recovery, tap on the ‘Install’ button and select the ZIP file which you have already transferred in the root folder of memory card on the phone.
Step 14 – Swipe on the “Swipe to Confirm Flash” option to confirm installation on the next screen.
Step 15 – Once the installation is completed, you can see a similar screen like the following:
Step 16 – Repeat the above step to flash Google Apps to install it on your phone.
Step 17 – Tap on the “Wipe cache/dalvik” button, it will help you to fix any boot loops or other issues.
Step 18 – Reboot your phone by selecting the “Reboot System” button.
Your HTC One M8 will boot now and may take about 4 to 5 minutes to boot for the first time after installation.
