Root Galaxy Note 4 (Canada) SM-N910W8 on N910W8VLU1COI4 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop

How To Root Galaxy Note 4 Canadian SM-N910W8 on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with Custom Kernel

Note:

This guide containing the modified kernel and instructions can be used only for the Canadian Galaxy Note 4. Check the model number of your device, if it is SM-N910W8 then go ahead, otherwise not. Do not try to install this firmware on any other device or incorrect variant.

Pre-Requirements:

  • Take a proper backup of all your data and settings like SMS, MMS, APN, Contacts and Call logs etc.
  • Download and install Samsung USB Drivers on your PC.
  • Enable USB Debugging option on your Galaxy Note 4 by navigating to Settings > Developer Options.
  • The latest version of a custom recovery like TWRP must be installed on your device.
  • Make sure that the battery level of your Galaxy Note 4 is about 80% before proceeding to the installation guide.

Required Files:

Steps to Root Galaxy Note 4 (Canadian) SM-N910W8 on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop:

1:- First, download the custom kernel (N910W8_COI4_Kernel_SelEnforceV0.1-Sef.zip) and the SuperSU package (UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.52.zip) on the desktop of your PC from the above given links.

2:- Connect your Galaxy Note 4 and copy/paste both of the .zip files to root folder of the internal storage of your phone.

3:- Turn Off the Note 4 in order to boot into TWRP custom recovery.

4:- Turn the device ON while pressing and holding Home + Volume Up + Power buttons at the same time.

5:- While your Note 4 is now in TWRP recovery, take a Nandroid backup and then navigate to the main menu of TWRP recovery and tap on the Install option.

6:- Locate the custom kernel file which you have already transferred to the internal storage of your phone. Proceed the installation by swiping the confirmation buttons.

7:- Go back to home in the TWRP and tap on the install option and select the SuperSU .zip file. Again, proceed the installation by swiping on the confirmation button.

8:- Reboot System, once the installation is completed successfully.

Done! You have rooted Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (Canada) SM-N910W8 running on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop stock firmware.

      1. Thanks for your prompt reply. My problem is that I would like to root 5.1.1 not 5.0.1 and that link only talks about 5.0.1 recovary. Any tips will be appreciated. Thanks

          1. Ok I followed the following steps:

            1- Flashed CF-Auto-Root with Odin which made my note 4 to be in a bootloop

            2- Flashed TWRP recovery (latest version) using Odin.
            3- TWRP worked in recovery mode. Then used your Kernel and SuperSu files above and it worked 😀

          2. Now the phone is rooted, Have you had any luck flashing tekxodus 5.1.1 ROM. I have tried the procedure on XDA but there is something missing. I end up with a blank screen forever!
