In this guide, we will be talking about TWRP 3.6.0. TWRP stands for Team Win Recovery Project and it has become a globally recognized custom recovery for Android enthusiasts. It has been around for many years now and many Android developers and enthusiasts replace the stock recovery on their Android devices with the custom TWRP recovery as it is more advanced and offers more features.
In order to carry out any software modification, such as rooting a device or flashing custom ROMs, custom kernels or use tools, it is required to make use of TWRP recovery.
The TWRP custom recovery has open source software and comes with support for many devices. Recently, the custom recovery got a new update and was upgraded to TWRP 3.6.0.
With the new update, we got to see support for devices running on Android 11 along with new features, better decryption and a change in the way TWRP is installed on your Android device.
TWRP 3.6.0 | What’s New?
Previously, if you had to install TWRP on a device with A/B partitions, you first had to temporarily boot the TWRP image using the ‘fastboot boot’ command and after that you were required to install it permanently through the ‘Install Recovery Ramdisk’ option.
But with this process, still stayed empty unless you directed the TWRP image towards it.
With the new TWRP 3.6.0, things will be a little different. After you temporarily boot the TWRP image using the ‘Fastboot boot’ command, you will be able to see a Flash Current TWRP in the Advanced section of custom recovery.
With this option, you will be able to permanently install the TWRP image that you booted into your device, making the process a lot simpler.
The other change that we got to see is the addition of two new troubleshooting options. The first option is regarding Dynamic Partitioning and the other is related to virtual A/B partition setup. You can easily disable and unmount all dynamic partitions using an option named ‘Unmap Super Devices’. Another option that you can find under the advanced section of TWRP is the Merge Snapshots option.
In the circumstance where you have to forcefully put the updates to the dynamic partition due to a problem with Merge snapshots, you could use this feature to your benefit.
Another new thing we saw was that TWRP is now compatible for devices that came with Android 11 out of the box. Further, a lot of new devices are also supported now.
