Update Galaxy Note 7 SM-N930W (Canada) to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

Samsung announced Galaxy Note 7 recently and the latest version of Android 6.0.1 firmware has been pushed by Canadian carriers that comes with build number N930W8VLU1APH1. So if you’d like to flash this latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow N930W8VLU1APH1 update on your Galaxy Note 7 then navigate to OTA (Over-the-air) update system / Samsung KIES. As these updates are being rolled out by Samsung in stages and not all Galaxy Note 7 users are going to get the new firmware bump at the same time. If the update is currently not available in your region or you can’t install the update through OTA for some reason then don’t worry, you can still follow our given guide to install the Marshmallow update manually.

Keep in mind that the models supported are the ones sold by the following Canadian carriers: Videotron, Globalive Wind Mobile, Bell Mobile, Fido Mobile, Rogers, Virgin Mobile, Telus, Koodo Mobile, SaskTel, and EastLink.

In this guide we’ll use ODIN flashing tool to update Galaxy Note 7 to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. So go ahead and follow the given step-by-step guide carefully. Don’t forget to take proper backup of all your important data before proceeding to the installation guide.

Note:

This guide containing the Official Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow firmware and instructions can be used only with the Galaxy Note 7 SM-N930W8 models. Do not try to install this firmware on any other device or incorrect variant. Verify the version of your device by navigating to Settings > About Phone, the model number of your device must be SM-N930W8.

Pre-Requirements:

  • Make a proper backup of all the existing data and settings of your Galaxy Note 7, in case anything goes wrong then you’ll be able to restore your data back.
  • Verify that you’ve properly installed the Galaxy Note 7 USB Drivers on the PC.
  • Enable USB Debugging Mode on your Note 7 by navigating to Settings > Developer Options > check the USB Debugging option.
  • If you have a custom ROM installed on the phone, then after installing this stock update, it will be lost.
  • The custom recovery will be replaced by the stock version.
  • If the Galaxy Note 7 will no longer belong to a rooted version once the stock firmware installed.
  • Check the battery level of your Note 7, it should be charged at least about 80% before proceeding to the installation guide.

Required Files:

If you are unsure about using this guide, then you should wait for the new firmware update to arrive in your region over the air, or you can choose to manually look for new firmware update using the Settings> About Phone> Software Update menu.

Steps To Install Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow for Galaxy Note 7 (Canada) N930W8:

Step No 1:– First, download Android 6.0.1 N930W8VLU1APH1 and Odin v3.10.7 for Galaxy Note 7 on the desktop of your PC and extract the .zip files to get tar.md5 file. Do not further extract .md5 file.

2:- Now, extract the archived contents to get the N930W8VLU1APH1 tar.md5 update file. Don’t extract the tar.md5 firmware update file.

Step No 3:– Turn OFF your Galaxy Note 7 in order to boot into Download Mode.

Step No 4:– Turn the device ON by pressing and holding the Volume Down + Home keys at the same time and then press the Power button till the construction Android robot and a triangle appear. Now press Power button once again to confirm to enter into Download Mode.

Step No 5:– Launch Odin tool on your PC as an Administrator and plug your phone to your PC while your phone is in the Download Mode.

Step No 6:– One of the ID:COM boxes will turn yellow with the COM port number once the phone is connected successfully.

Step No 7:– Select the firmware files that you want to flash on your Galaxy Note 7. (Already extracted in Step No 1)

Click on ‘AP’ and select file with ‘AP’ in its name.

Click on ‘CP’ and select file with ‘MODEM’ in its name. Ignore this step if there is no such file.

Click on ‘CSC’ and select file with ‘CSC’ in its name. Ignore this step if there is no such file.

Click on ‘PIT’ and select the .pit file. Ignore this step if there is no such file.

Click on ‘BL’ and select file with ‘BL’ in it’s name. Ignore if there is no such file.

Step No 8:– In Odin, make sure that the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options are ticked but the Re-Partition option should be unchecked.

9:– Click on the Start button in Odin to initiate the installation process. It will take a few minutes to complete.

Step No 10:– Once the installation process is successfully finished, the Galaxy Note 7 will restart. Unplug the phone after you see the home screen.

Done! You have successfully updated Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow official firmware update.
